BRITTNEY RAND is an avant-electronic artist, music producer, and film composer whose work blends rich sonic textures with emotive, conceptual storytelling. Based in Toronto, Canada, Rand brings over a decade of experience in experimental music, sound design, and visual media composition to her wide-ranging body of work.
A formally trained composer in Digital Music Production for Film & Gaming at Langara College, Rand began her career as co-founder of the electronic duo Mu, releasing two acclaimed albums through Boompa Records and performing at major festivals including Sled Island, Upstream Festival, and Houseguest. She launched her solo project CHERRIE LAUREL in 2018, further honing a distinct, atmospheric sound that culminated in her introspective ambient release The Silence Files Vol. I (2023). The 5 minute pieces were conceived as a sonic meditation on domestic isolation, captured and recorded during the initial lockdown stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rand’s scoring work spans feature films, IMAX documentaries, advertising, and experimental shorts. Her credits include multiple original scores for the Lifetime Network—such as He's Not Worth Dying For and Caught in His Web—as well as contributions to an upcoming documentary, Grand Prairie, directed by Evan Prosofsky. She is also an award recipient of the SOCAN Foundation’s Emerging Composers Lab, the BC Arts Council Pivot Grant, and VIFF AMP’s Talent Accelerator, among others.
Deeply committed to equity in music production, Rand has served as a panelist for Music BC’s Queer and Gender Minority forum and as co-facilitator of Producer’s Lounge, a mentorship program supporting LGBTQIA2S+ and underserved producers and engineers. She is a proud member of the Screen Composers Guild of Canada, and the Alliance For Women Film Composers.
Rand continues to compose, produce, and collaborate from her home studio, where she focuses on new commissions, interdisciplinary projects, and scoring work that merges the internal with the cinematic.
